While millions of men and women are worrying about the perspective of a conflict in Iraq, the General Conference Executive Committee issued an appeal for peace, as soon as 18 April 2002, warning against the terrifying consequences of war and terrorism.

A war in Iraq would produce the loss of numberless human lives and would also have serious consequences for the world community.

This is why the leaders of the European Seventh-day Adventist Church appeal again to the members of their churches to commit themselves once more in favor of peace and the welfare of all nations and peoples.

God is the Lord of Peace. As Christians, we wish to find encouragement and inspiration in these words of Jesus, pronounced during the Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9).
